Plain-language summary
- You must be at least 16 years old to create a Clap Ideas account.
- We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use the Platform.
- If you are 16 to 18, extra guidance applies, and in some places a parent or guardian may need to agree.
- Students and educators can use Clap Ideas. Teachers should oversee student use, and we keep data collection from minors to a minimum.
- Events that may involve minors have extra safety rules (see Projects, Teams & Events Terms).
- You can tell us about an under-age account, and a parent or guardian can ask us to delete a minor’s data.
1. Minimum age
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account and use Clap Ideas. When you register, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. If we learn that an account holder is under 16, we may restrict or remove the account.
Some regions set a higher minimum digital-consent age. Where local law requires a higher age or extra consent, that law applies to you.
2. Children under 13
Clap Ideas is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you are under 13, please do not create an account or send us any personal information.
If we discover that we have collected personal data from a child under 13 without proper consent, we will delete it promptly. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle data.
3. Guidance for users aged 16 to 18
If you are between 16 and 18 (or under the age of legal adulthood where you live), you are welcome on Clap Ideas, but please keep these points in mind:
- Think carefully before sharing personal details. Ideas you publish are public.
- Talk to a parent, guardian, or teacher if you are unsure about anything.
- In some places, a parent or guardian may need to agree to your use of the Platform, or to certain activities such as donations or attending events.
- Follow our Community Guidelines and keep yourself safe online.
Where the law requires parental or guardian consent for someone under 18, we expect that consent to be in place before the young person uses the relevant features.
4. Student and educational use
Clap Ideas can be a great tool for students and educators exploring future ideas and innovation. If you use the Platform in a school or educational setting:
- Teacher oversight: A teacher or responsible adult should supervise student use and make sure students meet the minimum age.
- Consent: Schools and educators are responsible for getting any parental or guardian consent required by local law before students take part.
- Data minimisation for minors: We aim to collect as little personal data as possible from minors. Students should avoid sharing personal details they do not need to share.
- Public content: Remember that published ideas are public. Educators should guide students on what is safe to share.
5. Minors at projects and events
User-led projects and events are independent and run by organisers, not by Clap Ideas. If a project or event may involve people under 18, organisers must take special care, including appropriate adult supervision, parental or guardian consent where needed, safeguarding measures, and following all child-protection laws. See our Projects, Teams & Events Terms.
6. How we protect younger users
To help keep younger users safe, we:
- Set a minimum age and ask users to confirm it.
- Aim to minimise the data we collect from minors.
- Use AI and human moderation to detect and act on harmful content and behaviour.
- Prohibit any content that exploits or endangers a minor, with zero tolerance.
- Provide clear ways to report concerns (see our Safety & Abuse Reporting Policy).
7. How to report an under-age account
If you believe someone is using Clap Ideas below the minimum age, please tell us. You can use our report form at /trust-safety/report, or email privacy@clapideas.com. Please include any details that help us identify the account. We will review the report and take appropriate action.
8. Parent and guardian deletion requests
If you are a parent or guardian and you believe your child has created an account or given us personal data, you can ask us to delete it. We handle these requests by email only; we do not offer telephone support. Please use our privacy request page, or email privacy@clapideas.com. We may ask for information to verify your request and the relationship. Once verified, we will delete the relevant data in line with our Privacy Policy.
9. Multi-jurisdictional baseline
Laws that protect children online differ by country. We aim to be globally aware and to follow a multi-jurisdictional baseline, subject to counsel review on formal launch. In particular:
- Canada (PIPEDA and Alberta PIPA):Our operator, CLAPPE Inc., is based in Canada. We aim to handle personal data, including data about young people, in line with Canadian privacy norms under the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
- COPPA (United States):We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent, in line with the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
- Age-appropriate design: We aim to follow age-appropriate-design principles, such as those in the UK and similar frameworks, including data minimisation and privacy-protective defaults for younger users.
This is a good-faith baseline, not a guarantee of compliance in any specific country. The details will be confirmed with qualified counsel on formal platform launch.
